If you are thinking of starting a garden by yourself, and you want a garden that needs minimal supervision and care, then it's a good idea to start with planting some wildflower seeds. It is widely known that wildflower plants are among the easiest plants to grow from seed. Wildflower plants are famous for their endurance against nature, needs minimal effort to keep and maintain, and as a bonus it comes in many different type of colors and shapes. Gardeners have been planting wildflowers during the spring and fall season and they can be grown during the summer as well in some places. It is known that wildflowers can survive in any type of weather and environment in this world. They spread their seeds by themselves all the time, showing their massive seed reproduction rate and also the fact that they don't need human help to grow. That means that it would be easy to start growing them even if the area is too volatile for other plants to grow. The wildflowers don't need fertilizers for nutrition, they don't need special potting soils to grow and they don't need mulching to help them to germinate. Wildflower seeds are so tough that they can go through the cold weather of early Spring, the wet rainy season, the extreme heat of Summer, and until Fall season comes.

The popularity of wildflowers lies not just in their many attractive colors and varieties, but also in their ease of germination and growth. Wildflowers are not used to having any special circumstances in which to grow, and can be planted easily and with little fanfare. The majority of wildflower seed varieties do not need to be mulched or fertilized. Unlike many other flowering plants, wildflower seeds are released all year in the wild, ensuring that the flower seed will have the best chance at survival. This means that as a gardener, it is possible to plant wildflowers at any time of year. Wildflower seeds can flourish when planted from early spring through to late fall in most climates.

If it is Spring time and you are thinking of adding wildflower plants to your garden collection, then it is best advised that you should loosen up you garden soil before planting the seeds. Although this will help the growth of the wild flower seed, it would also encourage the growth of more unwanted grass and plants also. Even though it is a popular belief of gardeners that planting wildflowers in their garden would keep the weed from growing, but it is not true. Wildflowers may be able to stop a certain amount of weed as they would compete for the nutrients from the ground, but theoretically they will not be able to stop all of them from growing. The unwanted plants would definitely compete with the wildflowers for nutrient and water so it could hurt the chances of surviving, so it is a good idea to clear the land of any possible weeds before planting the seeds so they wouldn't have so much competition when they start growing. By the time the weeds grow back the wildflower plants should have already started growing big and started rooting in the land.

Although Spring time is the best time to plant new plants with their seeds, but by then the soil of the garden would have stiffen and you would have to loosen it up before you actually plant your seeds. You can loosen the soil by tilling it and provide the wildflowers with more chances of growing. But by doing so it would make the soil more suitable for the weeds to grow also. Gardeners believe that the wildflowers would be able to choke out the unwanted plants, but it is only true to a certain extent where some weed will die out when the wildflower plants compete with it for nutrients, water and sunlight. Therefore, make sure you clear the land of any unwanted weeds and plants first before you plant the seeds so there will be no unwanted competition for the essentials. Nature will allow the weeds to grow back in time, but by then the wildflowers are fully grown and can do more than protect itself from the weeds.

As mentioned above, there are many different types of wildflowers with some better equipped for colder weather and some more suitable for hot and warm weather. Wildflower plants are also divided into perennial and annual flower seeds. The difference between the two is that perennial wildflowers can live as long as several years without any replanting effort, making it an attractive choice among gardeners who prefer little workload in their garden. Since it is a wildflower plant, perennial wildflowers can actually be grown any time of the year by the gardener's preference. But it is known that the growth calendar for the perennial wildflower illustrates that the best time to start is during spring season. If planted during spring then they have a better chance to survive the cold season when winter comes since they would have grown already by then. As for annual wildflowers they can be planted at any time of the year also, but their growth rate would at their best when planted during spring and fall time of the year. When winter comes the seeds would go dormant waiting for better conditions to come, and they will start germinating when spring time finally arrives.

Each type of different wildflowers are accustomed to each different continent and also weather. They also can be differentiated according to either perennial flower seeds or annual types. This makes this easier for gardeners to choose the wildflower types that they want. Perennial wildflowers are best planted during spring time, when they will have enough time to grow bigger and stronger so they can make it through the cold winter times. The perennial wildflowers can live longer this way, saving gardeners the trouble and effort to replant them year after year. As for annual wildflowers, spring and fall season would be a suitable time to start planting them. By then they will start to germinate during winter and going dormant while waiting for Spring to come so they can get enough sunshine, water and nutrient from the ground to grow even faster.

The popularity of wildflower plants are mostly due to their exotic beauty and their toughness in surviving. It's abilities to stop land slides due to soil corrosion and beautify pastures and fields since its easy to plant has increased its attractiveness among people. States across the country now use wildflower plants to stop and prevent land erosion and to provide beautiful and astonishing sceneries along highways and public attractions. Since wildflowers are hypothetically flowers that originate from the wild, therefore the seeds are much cheaper than other flower seeds. This makes the difference when compared to more expensive seeds which needs special attention and breeding in order to get the color, size or shape that the gardener requires. The fact that wildflower plants don't need any special attention or knowledge to grow makes it a good choice for the garden since it requires minimal care.

Although wild flower seeds are popular choices for the garden for their toughness and its vibrant colors, many don't consider the usefulness of the plant besides its beauty and toughness. Land slides are becoming fatal problem for some places, and wildflowers have proven to be a good "cure" to stop it. A lot of states in the country now have started using wildflowers to maintain the land while adding color and beauty to roadsides with the most minimal effort and cost. All of this is possible simply because of the fact that wildflowers are from the wilderness itself, therefore making it able to withstand anything and since there are lots to go around, it is cheap. Compare wildflowers to specialized bred flowers seeds which will only give you consistent characteristics, cheap wildflowers can provide more choices and options, thus giving gardeners more colors and shapes to work with rather than special breed plant seeds.
